Four Home Adjustments You Should Think About Before Your New Dog Arrives

Writer: Animal Transit Boxes LtdAnimal Transit Boxes Ltd

Dogs make amazing pets and soon become like another member of your family. But, while you may be excited by the thought of cuddles with your new dog, there are a few important things to think about too. Preparing your home for their arrival will not only help them settle in but stay safe.

Here are four home adjustments that you should consider for your new dog.

Adding stair gates

As your dog gets used to its new home it will want to explore. This is completely normal, but it’s also essential that you set clear boundaries from day one so your dog does not go into particular areas and cause mayhem. Adding stairgates is a great way of regaining control over where your dog goes, for example in your bedroom. Having these preparations installed will stop your dog from getting confused.

Securing your outdoor space

Your dog will need enough space to run around to get exercise but make sure that the garden is secure. Inquisitive dogs can easily escape if you don’t pay attention to security. Check for gaps in the fence where your dog could squeeze through and also look for poisonous plants that could pose a danger for your dog.

Adapting your vehicle

If you plan on taking your dog on day trips and holidays, adapting your vehicle is a good idea. A dog car crate is a safe way of transporting your pets as well as reducing anxiety. There are plenty of options for all vehicles so you can take good care of your dog when you’re on the move! Check out our latest blog on the benefits of dog car crates.

Creating an eating and sleeping area

Your home should be comfortable for your dog. Create a dedicated eating and sleeping area complete with blankets and bedding so they can relax in a safe place. You should keep eating and sleeping areas separate and choose a quiet location for their bed that’s undisturbed.
